This weekend, the Statesman's 10K race had a lot of hills but I finished it in an hour and two minutes. Who knew all the high knees and squats would help so much. I especially enjoyed passing up runners who didn't know how to run on Austin hills.
Below is the map of the upcoming Texas Round-Up 5K. Wow...there are hills in this route. Don't be afraid. You did great in this weeks training especially the mini-hill drills on the incline and the meter sprints. We even had some friendly competitions.
Remember to follow the following tips:
1. Maintain your speed or slow down in the uphills to save energy.
2. Good posture is the key for your back and arms.
3. Do not lean forward or hunch over while going uphill
4. For down hills make sure to control your speed and lean forward slightly to prevent knee/leg injury.
Remember hills are our friends. LOL.
